Muchina meets Ruto at State House after Ol Kalou by-election loss

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Ol Kalou parliamentary candidate Samuel Muchina on Tuesday, July 21, met President William Ruto at State House, Nairobi, just days after losing the fiercely contested by-election to Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau.

Photos shared on Muchina’s social media pages showed him walking alongside President Ruto within the State House precincts before the two held what appeared to be a cordial meeting.

Neither State House nor Muchina disclosed the specific agenda of the talks.

However, sources familiar with the developments indicated that the former UDA candidate could be under consideration for a State appointment, although Newsflash could not independently verify the claims.

The meeting comes in the wake of the Ol Kalou by-election, where Muchina mounted an energetic campaign but was ultimately defeated by Kamau in a contest widely viewed as a political test for both the ruling UDA and the opposition-backed DCP ahead of 2027 General Election.

Focus on development agenda

In a statement after the meeting, Muchina described the engagement with President Ruto as both an honour and a privilege, saying they discussed development priorities for Ol Kalou Constituency and the future of its residents.

“Today I had the privilege and honour of meeting H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, just a few days after the conclusion of the Ol Kalou Parliamentary By-Election,” he said.

According to Muchina, President Ruto commended him for running what he termed an issue-based campaign characterised by dignity, maturity and respect.

“I am deeply humbled that the President congratulated me for conducting an issue-based campaign and for demonstrating to the entire country that politics can be done with dignity, respect, ideas and maturity without insults, abuse or divisive slogans,” he said.

Although he failed to secure the parliamentary seat, Muchina insisted his commitment to serving the people of Ol Kalou remained intact.

“Although our victory was postponed, our commitment to the people of Ol Kalou remains unwavering. Leadership is not only about holding office; it is about standing with the people and ensuring that development reaches every household,” he added.

Projects to continue

Muchina further revealed that President Ruto assured him that several government development projects in the constituency would proceed despite the election outcome.

Among the projects he listed were the completion of 36 ongoing rural electrification projects across the constituency, construction of houses for vulnerable families with two houses targeted in every ward, and completion of five borehole projects aimed at improving access to clean water.

He also said the President committed to the continuation of the planned university project, completion of the Level Five JM Hospital, construction of the constituency stadium and tarmacking of roads whose works had already begun.

Muchina said he had accepted the responsibility of personally following up on the implementation of the projects to ensure they benefit residents.

He thanked Ol Kalou voters for their support during the by-election campaign and urged them to remain united despite the outcome.

“The election is behind us, but our shared dream of a modern, developed and prosperous Ol Kalou is still alive. Let us remain united, peaceful and focused on development. Together, we shall continue working tirelessly to make Ol Kalou shine,” he said.
