An aspiring Member of the County Assembly (MCA) in Kisumu has embarked on an aggressive campaign to mobilize young people to register as voters ahead of next year’s General Election.
Victor Jajok, who is eyeing the Market/Mlimani ward seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, says the initiative is aimed at increasing youth participation in the electoral process.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu after visiting the Kisumu Central Constituency IEBC offices—where he accompanied a group of youth to register—Jajok emphasized the importance of acquiring national identity cards as a prerequisite for voter registration.
He noted that his team is not only encouraging voter registration but also urging those who have not collected their IDs to do so in order to participate in the upcoming elections.

Jajok affirmed that the mobilization efforts will be continuous, targeting eligible voters across the ward.
“We are mobilizing the youth to register as voters and educating them on the importance of participating in the electoral process,” he said.
Youth seen as key to political change
The MCA aspirant revealed plans to expand the outreach by visiting churches, mosques, and public barazas to engage young people on the significance of voting.
He stressed that the youth play a critical role in shaping leadership outcomes, noting that their participation could determine who assumes political office.

Jajok also acknowledged the absence of ODM party leader Raila Odinga in the upcoming election, describing it as a significant shift but urged optimism among young voters.
“It is unfortunate that we are heading into an election without our party leader Raila Odinga, but all is not lost. Young leaders are emerging, and it is the youth who will propel them to power,” he stated.
He further called on young people to take an active role in the next General Election, highlighting the need for empowerment, employment opportunities, and greater inclusion in leadership.
