The National Assembly has announced the untimely death of Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, David Njuguna Kiaraho, who passed away in the early hours of Sunday, March 29, 2026.
According to a formal communication issued by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, the legislator died at around 1:20 a.m. while receiving treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
Kiaraho, a three-term MP, had been serving his constituents since his first election to Parliament in 2013. His death has sent shockwaves across the political landscape, with colleagues describing him as a dedicated and hardworking leader who remained committed to public service until his final days.
Career marked by service and dedication
Kiaraho served in the 13th Parliament as a member of the Departmental Committee on Transport and Infrastructure as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee. In these roles, he contributed significantly to legislative processes and infrastructure development discussions, leveraging his professional background to influence policy.

Before venturing into politics, Kiaraho built a successful career as an architect. He studied at the prestigious Alliance High School before proceeding to the University of Nairobi, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. His expertise saw him rise to become Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, where he was involved in various infrastructure and built environment projects.
Colleagues in Parliament noted that his technical knowledge and professional discipline greatly enriched debates, particularly those touching on national infrastructure and development planning.
Parliamentary tribute and funeral plans
In his official notification, Speaker Wetang’ula expressed profound sorrow on behalf of Members of Parliament and the Parliamentary Service Commission. He extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and constituents of the late legislator, describing his death as a great loss to the nation.
Among those who have mourned him is Kinangop MP Kwenya Thuku, who was elected alongside him in the 2022 General Election on a Jubilee Party ticket, recalling their shared political journey and legislative service.

To ensure a dignified send-off, the Speaker has constituted a funeral preparation committee that will work closely with the family. The committee will be chaired by Thuku and deputised by Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau, alongside seven other Members of Parliament.
The team is expected to coordinate all funeral arrangements and communicate further details in due course as the country prepares to honour the fallen lawmaker.

Born on October 2, 1963, Kiaraho served his constituency for over a decade, earning respect for his consistent engagement with grassroots issues and development initiatives. His tenure in Parliament was marked by a focus on infrastructure improvement and procedural integrity within legislative processes.
