Former students of Thika High School have been urged to step forward and support their former institution in order to strengthen the implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
Alumni from various schools have also been encouraged to come together and assist needy students who are struggling to continue with their studies due to financial constraints.
During the school’s 70th anniversary celebrations, one of its former students, Dr George Kamau, expressed concern over the increasing number of students missing out on education بسبب lack of school fees. He noted that it was alarming to see many learners unable to pursue their studies, yet alumni have the capacity to make a difference. He emphasized that former Thika High students have a responsibility to give back and support the institution that shaped them.
Need for infrastructural development
Dr. Kamau further pointed out that the rising student population calls for expanded infrastructure to meet growing demand. He stressed the importance of investing in additional classrooms and boarding facilities to create a conducive learning environment.
Another alumnus, Isaac Macharia, echoed these sentiments, calling for unity among former students to uplift their former school.

He pledged that alumni would work together to construct more classrooms and dormitories to improve learning conditions.Macharia said his commitment was driven by the realization that many students are at risk of dropping out due to unpaid fees.
School faces financial challenges
The school’s principal, Julius Muraya, revealed that Thika High is grappling with a fee arrears debt of Sh18 million, which has significantly hindered development efforts. He explained that if the fees had been paid on time, the school would have already built additional classrooms and dormitories.

Muraya called on alumni to come together and support the school’s development agenda. He also commended those who have already contributed and urged them to continue supporting the institution. Education stakeholders everywhere were encouraged to unite in supporting former schools to nurture a visionary and empowered future generation.
