IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu has reaffirmed the Intergovernmental Authority on Development’s (IGAD) dedication to promoting peace and stability in the Horn of Africa during a high-level panel on the region’s geopolitical outlook, held on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Türkiye.
Speaking at the event, Dr Workneh emphasized that mediation and conflict resolution in the Horn of Africa must be rooted in shared values and common aspirations.

“The path to lasting peace is one we must walk together,” he stated. “Our efforts must be guided by unity, mutual respect, and a vision of a stable, prosperous future for all our people.”
Call for stronger partnerships
The Executive Secretary highlighted the urgent need for closer collaboration between regional stakeholders and the international community.
He noted that the complexity of challenges in the Horn of Africa—from political transitions and security threats to climate change and humanitarian crises—requires a more coherent and coordinated approach.
“Our region cannot afford fragmented efforts,” he warned. “We need synergy between IGAD Member States and our global partners to respond effectively to both ongoing and emerging threats.”
