Moi University has made sweeping changes to its leadership, with Vice Chancellor Isaac Kosgey placed on an 8-month compulsory leave starting January 30, 2025.
The move is part of a broader effort to restructure the university and address ongoing management challenges.
The decision, reached after a council meeting held Thursday and Friday, was announced by the Council Chairperson Noah Midamba in a press conference on Saturday, February 1.
Along with Kosgey, Deputy Vice Chancellors Isaac Migeni and Henry Kiriamiti have also been placed on leave, with Migeni’s leave extended to one year.
The university’s Chief Finance Officer and Legal Officers have been suspended pending the outcome of investigations into their actions.
In the wake of these changes, the council appointed Professor Kiplagat Kotut as the acting Vice Chancellor.
The newly appointed council, which took office earlier this month under the direction of Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, has been given the responsibility of restoring order to a university grappling with numerous administrative and financial challenges.
