Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested six suspects believed to be behind a series of violent gang-related activities in Kajiado County. The coordinated operation comes amid rising public concerns over criminal groups spreading fear in the region.
According to the DCI, five of the suspects were intercepted while traveling in a vehicle in Kagio, Kirinyaga County. The operation, carried out by undercover detectives, led to the recovery of several items suspected to be used in the gang’s operations.
Among the seized items were a walkie-talkie, several SIM cards, rolls of cellotape, mobile phones, spotlights, and surgical gloves. Investigators believe these items were part of the tools the group used in planning and executing crimes.
Weapons and tools recovered during crackdown
In a separate sting, detectives tracked down another suspect in Kiserian, Kajiado County. The arrest yielded more alarming discoveries. Authorities recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with seven rounds of ammunition, a walkie-talkie, a teargas canister, and housebreaking equipment.
The suspects arrested in Kagio were identified as Eliud Muiruri Ng’ang’a, David Mithamo, Peter Njoroge, Peter Muriuki Kabiru, and Joseph Wahome Kinuthia. The sixth suspect, James Ndirangu Wanjiru, was captured in Kiserian with the rifle and other equipment. All six are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

Security officials say the recovery of such high-caliber weapons and police-grade equipment indicates that the gang was well-armed and potentially preparing for violent attacks. The presence of housebreaking tools further suggests the group’s involvement in robberies and burglaries in both urban and rural areas of Kajiado and neighboring counties.
Ongoing investigations and community safety
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete. Detectives are working to establish the extent of the gang’s operations and whether the group is linked to larger criminal networks in the region. Authorities are also pursuing leads on other accomplices who may still be at large.
Police say the operation underscores their commitment to restoring order and dismantling gangs that have been terrorizing residents. Local communities have been urged to cooperate with investigators by providing information that could help in identifying more gang members or locating hidden weapons.

The arrests come at a time when security agencies across Kenya are intensifying crackdowns on organized crime. The DCI has reiterated that gangs using intimidation, violence, and illegal weapons will face firm action under the law.
For residents of Kajiado and surrounding areas, the operation offers hope that sustained efforts by security agencies can restore peace and safety. With the suspects now in custody, police are confident that a major criminal network has been disrupted, reducing the threat of violent gang activities in the county.
