Nairobi North Sub-Region County Commissioner Simon Osumba has stepped up government oversight of development projects in South B, inspecting key facilities aimed at improving public services, education, housing and business infrastructure for thousands of residents.
Osumba toured four major projects on Wednesday, including a new six-room Chief’s Office in Mariguini, an Affordable Housing development, the South B Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market and a ten-classroom block at Highway Secondary School.
The inspection was aimed at assessing the progress of the projects, addressing emerging challenges and ensuring that the facilities are completed on time and delivered to the communities they are intended to serve.
Monitoring key projects
At the Chief’s Office in Mariguini, Osumba inspected the construction of a six-room office block funded through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF). The facility is expected to strengthen the delivery of administrative and government services in the area once completed.

He also visited the ongoing Affordable Housing Project in Mariguini, one of the developments expected to contribute to efforts to expand access to decent and affordable housing in Nairobi.
The South B ESP Market was another key stop during the inspection tour. The project is approximately 90 per cent complete, bringing it closer to becoming operational.
Once completed, the market is expected to provide improved trading facilities and a more organised environment for local traders.
Boosting education infrastructure
At Highway Secondary School, the County Commissioner inspected an ongoing ten-classroom block being constructed under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme by Makongeni Affordable Housing.
The additional classrooms are expected to increase the school’s learning capacity and ease pressure on existing facilities, providing learners with a more conducive environment for learning.
The inspection underscores the government’s focus on monitoring development projects beyond the planning and construction stages to ensure they are completed to the required standards and put into use for the benefit of residents.
Osumba assessed the progress of the projects and emphasised the need for timely completion while ensuring that construction works meet the required standards.

The projects are expected to directly benefit South B residents by improving access to government services, supporting local businesses, expanding educational infrastructure and increasing access to affordable housing.
The visit also highlighted the importance of cooperation between government agencies, the private sector and local development partners in delivering projects that respond to the needs of rapidly growing urban communities.
With the South B ESP Market already about 90 per cent complete, attention is now expected to turn to finalising the remaining works so that residents and traders can begin benefiting from the facility.
