Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has witnessed the commencement of works on the Mwenda Andù–Heni–Karati road in Kinangop Constituency, as the government advances plans to expand the network of tarmacked roads in Nyandarua County.
The project is among several road works being undertaken in Kinangop, with construction of the Kwa Waichangai–Kinja–Kitiri–Kitogo road expected to begin this week, according to Kindiki.
Three other roads in the constituency are already undergoing tarmacking at different stages of completion: Njabini–Sasumua Dam, Chobe–Matundura and Haraka–Karangatha–Kinamba.
The latest developments come as the government targets the upgrading of 1,000 kilometres of roads across Nyandarua County at a projected cost of Sh46 billion.
“The Government has prioritized the tarmacking of 1,000 kilometres of road in Nyandarua County, at a cost of 46 billion shillings,” Kindiki said on Monday, October 26, 2026, during an event at Mwenda Andù.
The Deputy President said the investment was intended to strengthen transport links and support key economic activities, particularly agriculture and trade, which rely on roads to move goods and connect producers to markets.
“Roads are a major economic stimulus, supporting agriculture, trade and facilitating the services sector,” he said.
Kindiki added that sustainable funding had been ringfenced to ensure the projects were completed on time, although he did not provide individual completion dates or a breakdown of the Sh46 billion allocation for the various roads.
The progress of the projects will be measured by their completion timelines and the extent to which improved roads ease movement for residents, farmers and businesses across Kinangop and the wider Nyandarua County.
