Kiambu earns recognition for digital transformation drive

Kiambu County has been recognized as one of the leading counties in implementing digital transformation, according to the Kenya Vision Secretariat.

The recognition highlights the county’s growing reputation as a model for embracing technology to improve governance and service delivery.

Governor Kimani Wamatangi announced the milestone on Thursday, attributing the success to deliberate investments in automation, e-government services, job innovation, and key digital infrastructure. He noted that the county’s progress reflects a broader commitment to aligning with national development priorities under Kenya’s Vision 2030 framework.

“We have achieved this success through strong collaboration among our staff,” said Wamatangi, emphasizing the role of teamwork in driving reforms.

The governor explained that Kiambu has undertaken major institutional reforms through the adoption of digital systems, particularly the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform. The system has streamlined operations across departments, reduced delays in service delivery, and enhanced accountability in public administration.

Revenue growth and job creation

The impact of the digital programme is evident across several sectors, including revenue collection, healthcare services, agriculture, and development planning. These improvements have strengthened efficiency and transparency across the county.

Wamatangi revealed that revenue collection has increased significantly to Sh5.4 billion following the rollout of digital systems.

He clarified that this growth was achieved without imposing additional tax burdens on residents, but rather through improved efficiency and sealing of revenue leakages.

He further noted that accountability has improved due to the automation of processes, making it easier to track transactions and monitor performance across departments.

The county’s alignment with Vision 2030 has also provided a clear development pathway anchored on transparency, innovation, and the use of technology to drive economic growth. Officials say the digital transformation agenda has not only improved service delivery but also created employment opportunities, particularly in the ICT sector. The initiative has also made Kiambu more attractive to investors seeking a modern, efficient, and transparent operating environment.

Wamatangi affirmed that the county will continue to invest in modern technology to further enhance efficiency, expand opportunities, and accelerate economic growth.

He added that Kiambu’s success is rooted in a strong culture of collaboration among its workforce, which has been instrumental in delivering sustainable development outcomes.
