Kenya has received major continental recognition for its strides in technology-driven governance and excellence in public service delivery at the Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) stood out as the biggest winner of the night, taking home the Best Technologically Transformed Government Institution award. NTSA’s Director General, George Njao, also earned personal recognition as Public Sector Personality of the Year and Transformation CEO of the Year, solidifying his leadership in steering the Authority into a model of digital transformation.
Under Njao’s guidance, NTSA has fully digitized its operations, allowing all services—from vehicle registration to licensing—to be accessed online. The Authority’s paperless system has improved transparency, efficiency, and convenience for millions of Kenyans.
“Less human interaction between clients and our staff enhances efficiency and reduces opportunities for corruption,” said Njao during his acceptance speech. “This transformation ensures citizen-centric service delivery and boosts government revenue.”

Experts say Kenya’s digital transformation aligns with the country’s Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritize innovation and efficiency in governance.
Observers note that the government’s increasing embrace of data-driven management, paperless systems, and online service platforms could save billions lost annually to inefficiencies and corruption.
As more agencies adopt NTSA’s digital-first approach, Kenya is expected to maintain its position at the forefront of Africa’s technological advancement and effective public service delivery.
