Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has insisted that he will be on the ballot in the 2027 presidential elections.
Speaking in a joint interview to radio stations broadcasting in the Luhya language on Thursday, 6th February 2025, Kalonzo said that he has sacrificed too much for others and his time has come.
“What is certain is that Kalonzo will be on the ballot by all means,” he affirmed.
The veteran politician said that he has supported ODM leader Raila Odinga thrice to vie for presidency without any reciprocity.
He also insisted that after the death of former Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa during Mwai Kibaki’s NARC government in August 2003, he was the one to be the next VP.
“When our friend Kijana Wamalwa left us, it was expected that I would be the next Vice President. However, we agreed Mzee Moody Awori to take the position,” said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo also said that in the proposed political alliance between him, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, Democratic Action Party (DAP) leader Eugene Wamalwa and former powerful Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, he is the most experienced.
“I hope my colleagues, out of respect, I think our priority shall be to remove the Kenya Kwanza regime from power. If we want the most popular leader…one who has supported everyone…I qualify,” said Kalonzo.
Kalonzo’s pronouncement came days after DAP endorsed Wamalwa to vie for presidency. Matiang’i has also received endorsement from the Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party.
Kalonzo vied for presidency in 2007 and came third behind Kibaki and Raila by garnering 879, 903 votes.
The politician later supported Raila twice – in 2013 and 2017, being his running-mate.
He supported Raila for a third time in 2022, with People Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua as his running-mate.
