National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamme and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta
By Newsflash Writer
National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has demanded that former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna publicly account for the management of funds meant to pay Azimio la Umoja campaign agents during the 2022 General Election.
Responding to claims made by Sifuna that he squandered the money meant for Azimio agents, Junet said the accusations were false, reckless and deliberately misleading.
Sifuna made the claims on Saturday, January 3, 2026, while addressing mourners in Kigumo, Murang’a County, during the burial of Embakasi North MP James Gakuya’s mother.

However, Junet dismissed the allegations as an attempt to shift blame and conceal the truth about who actually controlled and disbursed the campaign funds.
“I want to tell my brother Junet to tell us where the funds meant for Azimio campaign agents went. We know he squandered the money with his wives,” Sifuna said.

In a press statement, Junet, who is also the Suna East MP, distanced himself from the allegations, saying he neither received nor controlled the funds in question.
He accused Sifuna of acting as a mouthpiece for former President Uhuru Kenyatta in what he described as a coordinated attempt to rewrite the history of the 2022 campaign.
“I wish to respond to Senator Edwin Sifuna, the ODM Secretary General who moonlights for former President Uhuru Kenyatta within our party,” Junet said, insisting that the truth about the agents’ money was well known to those who ran the campaign.
Uhuru, Muhoho drawn into controversy
Junet claimed that the funds intended for election agents were released by Uhuru Kenyatta to his brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, who then took charge of the agents’ programme. According to Junet, Muhoho appointed a man identified as Peter Mburu to oversee the recruitment and payment of agents.
He said Mburu presented himself as an IT expert with the capacity to detect and prevent manipulation of election results by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). However, Junet alleged that despite these claims, agents were neither properly recruited nor paid.

Junet further claimed that Mburu remains a close aide of Uhuru Kenyatta to date, citing a recent trip to Nigeria in which Mburu reportedly travelled alongside Uhuru and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as evidence of his continued proximity to the former president.
At the height of the campaign, Junet said Muhoho Kenyatta operated from a highly restricted office in Westlands, where key decisions on agents and logistics were allegedly made. He claimed the office was so tightly controlled that even Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga could not access it freely.
“It is from this office—out of bounds for nearly all of us—that they claimed to handle agents’ payments and logistics,” Junet said, challenging Uhuru and Muhoho Kenyatta to publicly deny his assertions.
Questions over agents and 2022 defeat
Junet alleged that once Uhuru’s allies took over the agents’ programme, no meaningful recruitment took place, either in the Mt Kenya region or in Raila Odinga’s traditional strongholds such as Luo Nyanza. He described the entire operation as a deliberate scheme that crippled Azimio’s ground game on polling day.
He also rejected suggestions that he betrayed Raila Odinga, saying his continued trust within the party was evidence of his loyalty. Junet noted that Raila would not have appointed him Minority Leader in the National Assembly if he had played any role in undermining the campaign.

“For years, I handled all delicate assignments from our late dear Party Leader with fidelity and diligence,” Junet said, defending his record.
The Minority Leader has now called on Uhuru Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, Peter Mburu and Senator Sifuna to come clean about who controlled the agents’ funds, how the money was handled and who should ultimately bear responsibility for Azimio’s loss in the 2022 presidential election.
“Kenyans deserve the truth about the handling of agents’ money—who controlled it, who mishandled it, and who cost us the election,” Junet said, adding that further revelations would follow.
