Nakuru Senator Tabitha Karanja has strongly refuted claims made by Governor Susan Kihika that she is critically ill and admitted in a hospital in London.
In a detailed statement released on Friday, May 2, 2025, Karanja labeled the claims as false and politically motivated.
The controversy stems from remarks made by Governor Kihika during an interview on Kogi’s Corner Online TV on Thursday, May 1, where she stated, “I also take this opportunity to wish her a quick recovery. I know she is admitted in a hospital in London. According to the way I have been brought up, even if you don’t get along with someone, you don’t wish them bad in their worst moments.”
Karanja, however, dismissed the governor’s assertions, clarifying that she is in perfect health and simply taking a brief vacation in London during the Senate’s official recess.

“As you are aware, the Senate is currently on a short recess, which began on April 18th and will end on May 5th, 2025,” her statement read. “I have taken this opportunity to step away from my busy schedule for a brief vacation here in London. I am in excellent health, full of energy, and fully prepared to resume my oversight duties next week.”
Senator alleges misinformation by County insiders
The senator further condemned the dissemination of what she described as “fake news” orchestrated by politically motivated actors.
“I thank God I am not sick, I am not in hospital, and I have not been hospitalised. These are fake news being spread by paid bloggers and social media influencers—unfortunately, some of whom are being financed by officials within the county government using public resources,” she stated.
Karanja called on those behind the rumors to cease what she termed as a wasteful and damaging campaign. “These funds should instead be channelled toward meaningful development for our people,” she added.
The statement comes at a time of heightened political tension in Nakuru County, where the relationship between Senator Karanja and Governor Kihika has been increasingly strained. Sources indicate that Karanja is positioning herself to vie for the Nakuru gubernatorial seat in 2027, a move that could intensify the rivalry between the two women leaders.

“I strongly urge these individuals to stop spreading misinformation. Such baseless and unfounded rumours have caused unnecessary concern and panic among the people of Nakuru County,” Karanja said.
Despite the political heat, Karanja reaffirmed her commitment to her constitutional mandate. “Please rest assured of my unwavering commitment to the constitutional responsibilities of oversight and accountability. No amount of intimidation will deter me from executing my roles in oversight, representation, and legislation.”
She concluded by condemning what she termed as “inhumane” political tactics: “I also take this opportunity to strongly condemn those who wish others terminal illness for political gain. Such acts are inhumane, deeply saddening, and have no place in a civilized society.”
