The Kenyan media fraternity is in deep mourning following the untimely deaths of two promising journalists, Nick Mudimba and Fredrick Farsayo.
The sudden passing of these two talented reporters has left their colleagues and fans heartbroken.
Nick Mudimba’s sudden demise
Renowned sports journalist Nick Mudimba passed away on Sunday evening, March 23, 2025, after collapsing at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County. His employer, China Global Television Network (CGTN), confirmed the heartbreaking news.

Reports indicate that Mudimba had been undergoing treatment for health complications, including high uric acid levels. According to his family, he had taken his prescribed medication before suddenly collapsing and experiencing convulsions. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at home, and his body was later transferred to a morgue in Syokimau.
Mudimba was widely known for his passion for sports journalism, with previous stints at KTN and Switch TV. His last social media post showcased his deep love for football, as he encouraged Kenyans to support the Harambee Stars.
“Let’s fill Nyayo Stadium on Sunday. Gambia must fall. There’s something about this Harambee Stars team,” he tweeted on March 21, 2025.
His colleagues in the media industry expressed their sorrow, flooding social media with heartfelt tributes.
Journalist Mashirima Kapombe lamented:
“Death, why are you so cruel? Eternal rest grant unto Nick Mudimba, oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.”
Seth Olale, a close friend and fellow journalist, recalled their last meeting:
“We were together cracking jokes at the AU Media Center in Addis Ababa. You assisted me in installing the latest Audio Sound Booth Recorder on my laptop. Rest in peace, my brother Nick Mudimba.”
Veteran journalist Saddique Shaban summed up the grief, writing:
“Nick Mudimba. Devastated. Broken. Everyone’s loss.”
Ferdinand Omondi also expressed his sorrow:
“Gutted to learn about the death of my friend and counterpart Nick Mudimba. One of the kindest souls I ever met, and always ready for a good laugh. Rest in peace, bro.”
Lofty Matambo remembered Mudimba for his lively nature:
“RIP kaka Nick Mudimba, you were so full of life until your death this evening. Kweli haya maisha ni mafupi sana.”
Tragic loss of KBC’s Fredrick Farsayo
In another devastating blow to the media industry, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) reporter Fredrick Farsayo passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, under unclear circumstances at his home in Kinoo, Kikuyu Constituency.
KBC Managing Director Agnes Kalekye confirmed the sad news in an official statement on behalf of the board, management, and staff.
“It is with profound sorrow that we inform you of the demise of Fredrick Farsayo, a reporter at the KBC Editorial Department. The late Parsayo met his death on Friday, 21st March 2025, under unclear circumstances at his residence in Kinoo – Kikuyu constituency. The matter was reported to the Kinoo Police Station,” read the statement.

Authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death, as family, friends, and colleagues await answers.
Farsayo was regarded as a dedicated and hardworking journalist, passionate about uncovering the truth and delivering impactful stories. His untimely passing has left a void in the industry, with many mourning the loss of a young journalist whose career was just beginning to flourish.
