Nairobi North Regional County Commissioner Simon Osumba has warned suspected criminals and gangs to abandon criminal activities or face arrest and prosecution as security agencies intensify efforts to maintain law and order ahead of next year’s General Election.
Osumba said the government would not tolerate activities that threaten residents’ safety, urging young people to shun crime and engage in productive ventures that promote peace and development in their communities.
Speaking on Monday during Mashujaa Day celebrations at Kamukunji Technical and Professional College (KTPC) in Nairobi, the administrator urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and ensure their children’s safety during the long school holiday.
He said parents had a responsibility to supervise their children closely and protect them from exposure to crime and other social vices during the break.
Osumba also provided an update on development projects in the area, revealing that construction of Phase One of the new Gikomba Market was almost complete, paving the way for the commencement of Phase Two.
The project is expected to improve trading conditions for businesspeople operating at the busy market, which serves thousands of traders and customers daily.
Security
On security, the commissioner said the illicit brew menace had been contained in Kyambiu, adding that authorities were planning a major crackdown in Shauri Moyo to curb the sale and distribution of illegal alcoholic drinks.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to combating illicit alcohol and other criminal activities, urging members of the public to cooperate with security officers by providing information that could help identify and apprehend suspects.
With the country preparing for next year’s General Election, Osumba also urged eligible Kenyans who had not registered as voters to take advantage of the opportunity and participate in the electoral process.

“We are heading into the electioneering season next year. I urge all youths and unregistered Kenyans to ensure they register as voters so that they can elect leaders they believe will bring change to their areas,” he said.
The commissioner was accompanied by North Sub-Region Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer J. Thuvi, Sub-Region Police Commander E. Rono, Sub-Region Administration Police Commander J. Lumali, the Kamukunji Deputy County Commissioner, assistant commissioners, chiefs and their assistants.
Showcase talents
The celebrations also provided a platform for learners to showcase their talents through music and dance performances. Pupils from Eastleigh Airport School and Mama Pendo Primary School entertained guests with colourful presentations that drew applause from the audience.
The Kenya Police Service staged a parade, highlighting the role of security agencies in maintaining peace, protecting citizens and promoting national unity.
The event concluded with leaders and participants planting tree seedlings within the college compound, underscoring the importance of environmental conservation and efforts to increase tree cover.
The celebrations brought together local administrators, security officers, learners and community members to honour Kenya’s heroes and reflect on development priorities, including security, youth empowerment, education and environmental protection.
