Former Chief of Staff in Kiambu County, Engineer Sammy Onyango, has stated that the case about the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua should be handled strictly through legal channels, without political interference.
Mr Onyango, who has lived in the Mt. Kenya region since his youth, is preparing to vie for the Ruiru parliamentary seat under the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket in the 2027 elections.
“In my view, the Gachagua case is not a personal matter but one that should strictly follow constitutional law,” the leader explained.
He noted that after engaging with supporters of the DCP party in Ruiru town, he is convinced they also believe the law will take its course.
Gachagua’s case is currently before the Milimani High Court in Nairobi, presided over by Justices Eric Ogolla, Anthony Mrima, and Fred Mugambi.

The former Deputy President is challenging his removal from office, arguing that due process was not followed. According to him, the impeachment was politically driven and did not adhere to constitutional requirements.
He maintains confidence that justice will prevail.
His lawyers, Paul Muite and Tom Macharia, argue that the Constitution requires the removal process of a Deputy President to take up to 74 days. However, Gachagua was removed within just 24 hours, raising serious constitutional questions.
Onyango’s political bid and call for integrity
Mr Onyango observed that Ruiru, a densely populated and diverse constituency, comprises people from different communities, who will ultimately make an informed decision.
He anticipates a highly competitive election, with each candidate presenting their policies.
Drawing from his experience working under former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Onyango says he gained valuable knowledge that will enable him to effectively lead Ruiru if elected.

At present, Gachagua is seen as a key opposition figure, with efforts underway to unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Onyango also highlighted his past contributions in Kiambu County, including supporting development projects through NG-CDF funds and creating job opportunities for youth.
He urged fellow aspirants to uphold integrity and humility while seeking votes.
“As leaders, we must show readiness to serve the people through development, rather than engaging in insults, hate, and tribalism,” he said.
He added that empowering youth with technological skills is essential, as the future is increasingly shifting towards a digital economy.
