About 300 medical students from Kenyatta University have received a major boost after securing opportunities to undertake further clinical training at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
Earlier this week, the students were officially received at the referral and teaching hospital for an induction session aimed at familiarizing them with hospital operations and patient care procedures.
Strengthening training through partnership
The group was formally welcomed by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Zainab Gura, who said the partnership is significant because it will foster long-term collaboration between Kenyatta University and KUTRRH.
“This collaboration is important because the students will gain comprehensive skills through research and specialized patient care,” said Dr. Gura.
She added that the partnership will be expanded further to enhance expertise in research and innovation.

Outgoing Kenyatta University Vice-Chancellor Prof Paul Wainaina accompanied the students, who come from different disciplines including clinical medicine, community health, and other health sciences fields.
He noted that reaching the agreement was not easy, but discussions eventually bore fruit.
“This has been a long journey that required a lot of patience before we reached this agreement. I urge the current and future administrators to nurture this good partnership for the benefit of our students,” said Prof. Wainaina.
Students welcome the opportunity
Dr Jabal Kukiza, one of the students, hailed the move as the beginning of their success.
“This step is important in our studies. We have persevered for a long time before achieving this breakthrough,” he said.
He added that the opportunity will help them expand their knowledge and skills in the medical profession.
Other students who were interviewed agreed that research and innovation will be key to the success of their training.
They also praised the conducive environment at KUTRRH, saying it will give them greater motivation to excel in their studies.
