Several Nairobi and Rift Valley schools recorded improved performance in the just-released 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Maryhill Girls High School, consistently among the nation’s top performers, posted outstanding results, with 64 candidates attaining plain A grades. Additionally, 179 scored A-, 191 B+, 136 B (plain), 64 B-, 20 C+, six C, and five C-.
Principal Grace Macharia, speaking during the school’s celebrations, revealed that 98 per cent of candidates qualified for direct university admission, with the school achieving a mean score of 9.9008. “This success reflects discipline, teamwork, dedication, and above all, the fear of God among students, teachers, and parents,” she said. Ms Macharia credited the strong results to a supportive learning environment and committed staff and parents.
Nairobi schools record strong performances
The Nairobi School improved its mean score from 9.2 (B plain) last year to 9.5 (B+), with 578 of 603 candidates qualifying for direct university entry. The results included 42 A grades, 139 A-, 163 B+, 117 B, 76 B-, 41 C+, 14 C, seven C-, two D+, and one D-. Principal Caspal Maina lauded the students and teachers, noting that despite the school’s large population, 96 per cent of candidates attained university entry.

Alliance High School recorded a mean of 10.4, with all 461 candidates qualifying for university. The school posted 128 A grades, 141 A-, 92 B+, 48 B, 32 B-, 15 C+, two C, and three C-. Alliance Girls High School also performed well, with 58 A grades, 179 A-, 149 B+, 87 B, 43 B-, 13 C+, eight C, and two C-. Kenya High School achieved a 98 per cent university qualification rate, with 40 A grades and 135 A-.
Individual achievements
Top performer Michira Olsy scored an A with 84 points, attributing her success to preparation and teamwork. Other top scorers included Neema Wandia Valary (83 points), Stacy Chelangat (82 points), and Muthoka Victoria (81 points).
In Kajiado County, Merishaw School saw over 50 students qualify for university, praised for their discipline and resilience.

Starehe Boys’ Centre recorded a mean of 9.9, with 292 of 300 candidates qualifying. Loreto High School Limuru achieved a 95.3 per cent university transition rate and a mean score of 9.404, while Limuru Girls High School posted a 92 per cent transition rate.
Light Group of Schools in Karen maintained a 99 per cent university transition rate, with a mean of 9.28. Teachers, parents, and students alike attributed the success to discipline, dedication, and collaborative effort.
