Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused the government of unleashing armed police officers and state-backed militia on the home of the party’s Narok Town ward candidate, Douglas Masikonde.
In a statement released on Wednesday night, November 26, Gachagua alleged that the raid was part of a wider plan to undermine the will of voters ahead of Thursday’s by-election. His remarks come amid heightened political tension in the constituency, with parties making their final push to mobilise supporters.
Gachagua condemns “State-sponsored intimidation”
Gachagua said the attack on Masikonde’s residence took place while the candidate and his election agents were holding a routine training session. According to him, the officers allegedly stormed the compound without provocation, assaulted those present and caused extensive damage.
“I am now, without an iota of doubt, persuaded that this regime has gone mad and lost its moral compass,” he said. “Throwing caution to the wind, heavily armed police officers and state-sponsored militia have stormed the home of our DCP candidate, Hon. Douglas Masikonde, in Narok Town and violently attacked him and his agents, who were undergoing training.”

The former Deputy Pesident claimed the raid formed part of a coordinated effort to prepare grounds for electoral malpractice. “It is now clear that plans to stuff ballot papers are complete, and our agents are being intimidated to subvert the sovereign will of the people,” he added.
Gachagua further alleged that forces allied to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) were attempting to influence the outcome by suppressing opposition candidates. “This is an attempt to deny the people of Narok Town their constitutional right to elect a candidate of their choice and to force the UDA candidate upon them,” he said.
Tension rises ahead of polling day
The incident stirred unease within local political circles, with residents expressing concern over escalating confrontations among party supporters. Gachagua urged voters to remain calm, stating that the DCP would not be intimidated. He called on the people of Narok Town to show resilience and participate in the election despite the challenges.

“I appeal to the people of Narok Town to stay calm and turn out to vote despite the many hurdles being placed in their way,” he said.

Earlier, unverified images circulating on social media showed damaged vehicles said to belong to some of the candidate’s agents. The photos depicted shattered windscreens and dented car bodies, though Newsflash could not independently confirm the authenticity of the images or link them directly to the alleged raid.
Attempts to obtain clarity from police officials were unsuccessful, as law enforcement agencies had not released any statement by the time of going to press.
