Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that she has separated from her husband, constitutional lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo.
In a light-hearted social media post on Saturday, June 27, Waiguru laughed off the claims, joking that she could not imagine being abandoned during the cold season in her home county of Kirinyaga.
“They say I’ve been dumped. There’s no way I can accept being dumped in this freezing Gichugu weather!” Waiguru posted, while tagging Dr Waiganjo, a prominent Nairobi-based constitutional lawyer.
Her response comes after a widely shared social media post claimed that the couple had quietly gone their separate ways after several years of marriage.
Social media claims
The viral post alleged that Waiguru and Waiganjo first met in 2009 during the constitution-making process, when both worked as consultants for parties involved in negotiating Kenya’s new Constitution.
It further claimed that the two fell in love while travelling to a constitutional forum through the Likoni Ferry in Mombasa, where they reportedly shared a simple meal of bread and soda before Waiganjo asked for Waiguru’s phone number.

According to the post, Waiganjo later pursued the relationship through regular phone conversations before Waiguru agreed to go on a date with him at a Thai restaurant in Nairobi.
The post also alleged that the couple had their first disagreement during that date because Waiguru spent much of the time on her phone, but they later agreed to keep their phones away during personal moments.
It further claimed that Waiganjo proposed to Waiguru on his birthday at the Lord Erroll Hotel in Nairobi before they held their traditional engagement on February 16, 2019, eventually concluding with the unverified claim that the couple had since separated.
However, Waiguru’s latest remarks have firmly dismissed the separation reports.
High-profile wedding
Waiguru and Waiganjo officially tied the knot on Saturday, July 13, 2019, in a colourful traditional Kikuyu wedding ceremony known as Ngurario held at Kiamugumo Primary School in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County.
The ceremony attracted some of the country’s top political leaders, underscoring the couple’s prominence in Kenya’s public life.
Among those who attended were former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who was the sitting Head of State at the time, the late Raila Odinga, Cabinet secretaries, governors, Members of Parliament and other political dignitaries.
The wedding drew nationwide attention, with thousands of residents lining roads to witness the celebrations.
