County gov’t to roll out listing of persons to benefit from NHIF cover.

Bungoma county government will kick start registration of people above 60 years to benefit from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF).Speaking during the unveiling of board membership of various hospitals at Mabanga FTC on November 26, the county’s deputy governor Prof. Charles Ngome stated that the listing of beneficiaries will start in January 2020.”We have agreed with governor Wycliffe Wangamati that the plan to register people to benefit from county free NHIF cover will start in January next year, this program will enable them to access free medication in our facilities whenever they fall sick,” said Ngome. He noted that majority of older people are sick and poor and their efforts to access proper medication have always hit a snag but with the unveiling of the medical program, they will have the last laugh.Wangamati, during his campaigns and after being elected had pledged to register all households to benefit from the free NHIF cover but changed tune and pledged that the program will only target people above 60 years.Ngome further asked the board members to create a mutual working relationship with medics and nurses in order to improve the working environment that will see the medical facilities offer good services to it’s clients. At the same time, the county health CECM Dr.Antony Walela said that the unveiling of the board membership will help in the running of day to day programs aimed at facilitating easier flow of information aimed at improved services.”Board members are very important people, they facilitate easier management in our facilities, they help in making key management decisions that affect various hospitals hence improved services,” said Dr.Walela.The ministry’s Chief Officer Patrick Wandili lauded the appointment of board members stating that their availability will contribute to the improved services in various hospitals.”Majority hospitals have been lacking board members for the past three to four years but with the unveiling of the team, the facilities will be managed in the best way possible,” he said.Wandili pointed out that board membership is the key decision making organ in the county hospitals and they should therefore act themselves with decorum to ensure the health facilities are best managed.Among the key facilities that had board membership inaugurated included Bungoma County Referral Hospital, Webuye County Hospital, Bumula, Chwele, Cheptais, Kimilili, Naitiri and Mt Elgon sub county hospitals.
