Luyha leaders have been challenged to support the deputy president William Ruto’s planned 2022 presidency.
Leader of the majority in the national assembly Aden Duale has called on ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya to shelf their presidential ambitions and back Ruto.
Speaking during a funds drive in aid of the Muslim community consortium in Kimwanga market, Bumula constituency on November 16, Duale said that Ruto’s presidential bid is unstoppable.
“Ruto has real stood with this country, he has fought many wars, he has been criticised far and wide but he has remained steadfast in serving this country, he should be supported to lead this country in 2022,” he said.
The Garissa town Mp said that the disunity in Luhya land can’t guarantee any leader from within to become the president because of being over ambitious and not uniting their communities.
“You saw it in the Kibra constituency by election, Mudavadi’s candidate got 5,000 votes while Ford Kenya managed a paltry 260 votes, this clearly shows how the Luhya nation is divided, if they had picked one candidate and supported him, things could be different, we also need other communities to enable a picked presidential candidate to ascend to power, the only person who got the countrywide support is Ruto,” said Duale.
The legislator challenged Kenyans to be patient and wait for the release of the building Bridges Initiative (BBI) instead of preempting it.
“The report will be released probably this week, it will be shared to all Kenyans, let’s read it, if it favours this country we will pass it if not we disregard it and life goes on,” he said.
The National Assembly Chief Whip who is also the Mumias East Mp Benjamin Washiali called on Kenyans to support Ruto’s presidential bid.
“He is the only leader who has got Kenyans interest at heart, he doesn’t cause divisions and listens to each of us, ODM leader is good but he has showed Kenyans that he is self centred,” said Washiali.
Bumula Mp Mwambu Mabonga and his Matungu counterpart Bishop Justus Murunga also supported the election of Ruto as the 2022 president while calling on Kenyans to make a wise decision.
“Ruto doesn’t discriminate, he works for all Kenyans and is not self centred, he understands well what Kenyans are going through and is ready to fix things once he ascends to power,” said Mabonga an independent Mp.
